Boats were and they still are the main mean of transportation of people in Greece, especially in coastal areas and in the islands. People are using boats to transfer from the one place to the other, to go to places that can not be approached by car or other mean of transportation and also for fishing, that is the main nutrition of peope in coastal areas.
Boats are mainly made out of wood, most of the times by the people that use them. Almost every person in islands know how to built a boat and all of them know how to mantain them, by painting them and polish them.
The size is different, depending on the use thay want to make, and the purpose of having it. Boats usually have female names, that come from the wife’s or daughter’s name of the owner. People feel for their boats feelings that can be compared with the feelings of father and child!
